Later on Monday, 6 August 2007

So ok, we're now in 2007 and Poppy's back from her travels. She comes for a cup of tea with the Sandman who is currently drying out his sleeping sand, some of which had been damaged in the flooding. The rain had been rather unrelenting. They say it's the El Nino effect and climate change.

Poppy:
Gosh it's a right state out there. It's all desolate like a warzone!

The Sandman:
Well, yes wettest summer on record.

The Poppy:
No, no, not here. I mean the fairground. It's completely wrecked and covered with weeds. Though I suppose something is growing.

The Sandman:
Ah. Yes, well storms take many forms. Armageddon came when the carnival left. It came and went, party's over and it's all a big mess. You never see the disaster until you stop and people don't tend to stop these days. Always rushing around they are.

Poppy:
Is your sleeping sand not working anymore? It hasn't been working very well on her anyway. She's still having violent dreams. She's still out there did you know? She'd been sitting there since she fell over for a long time. Then she got up a couple of times and wandered a little bit away from the debris. I thought she'd managed to get up and walk again but then she kept falling with a splat and getting muddier and muddier each time. The party's over and she's still waiting for her ride.

The Sandman:
She must know they've all gone now and they're not coming back. If they were coming back, they'd have done by now. It's been a long long time now it's almost getting a little silly she's still hanging around, haunting the place like an unwanted ghost.

Poppy:
Where is she supposed to go? The river ice is still broken and she can't get to the other side. One only has that much energy to wake up every day after all. Times are hard for dreamers. Especially since her gallant stallion sped off and now she's only left with the nightmares.
